The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra will perform in six cities in Spain in May 2016, it announced Thursday. Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko, winner of the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the FWSO’s artistic partner, will be the featured soloist. It will be the FWSO’s fourth international tour and its first in more than 25 years.
On the basis of his phenomenal playing at the April 6 concert, it is easy to see why he triumphed at the Van Cliburn competition. And, with the proviso that winning the competition does not guarantee further success, Kholodenko’s talents and his insightful musicianship augur well that his will be a long and triumphant career.
Kholodenko revealed a gift for coloring and a variety of touch, always applied judiciously. He made terraced dynamics – soft and dreamy in one hand, forceful and mezzo-forte in the other – sound magical.
